For Miami, December doesn’t mean the beginning of cold weather and scarves, it means the beginning of the 16th annual Art Basel showcase. This International art fair is the start of a week long affair for Miamians, from parties to museums—here’s your guide to what’s happening in this years Art Basel


Art and Shows

Art Basel is all about the artist, from painters to sculptors to performers. With galleries and artist from all over the world showcasing their work, you’ll find art at every corner of Wynwood and Miami Beach.


Satellite Art Show 2017: December 7-10

A gallery focused on an alternative to the clean and pristine look of most of Art Basel’s galleries, this art show takes place in an abandoned hotel. With 39 art installations and projects all catered to contrast the posh feel of Art Basel, this could be a break from the monotony.

SuperFine Miami 2017: December 7-10

An art fair designed to close the gap between citizen viewers and long-time art collectors. This multi-day fair holds exhibitors, art and artist from all over the world as well as plenty of local artist. Known for introducing low-priced but still remarkable art by renowned artist, this could be the place to get started on your art collection.

RAW Pop-Up: December 6-9

This exhibit will take place in the Historic Post Office building in Downtown Miami. The Young Artist Initiative is in charge of this pop-up, their organization focusing on young, emerging artist from all over. The 3-floor building will house 4 days of interactive and sensory driven art, food and sounds. This excerpt was taken from their website explaining exactly what they plan to do with your senses.

“In today’s world, the human mind is constantly overstimulated, not focused on living in the present moment. For its next installment, YAI has selected RAW as the curatorial thesis for site-specific installations. The human senses will be stripped to their purest form; ready to be felt in a raw space. With over 40+ emerging artists interpreting the senses, RAW’s pop up aims to challenge, engage and awaken.”

This is only the surface of the art related shows happening all over Miami during this week. This is a massive multi-day showcase for artist so you will have hundred of choices for art gazing.


Nightlife and Food

Art may be take the spotlight during Art Basel but the city gets bustling with much more then galleries during this week. You’ll have plenty of spots to go to while your planning which gallery to visit next.


Breakfast in the Park: December 10

Breakfast in the Park is an official Art Basel Miami Beach event that has been going on since 2004. Held at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Museum, this event invites you to a complimentary breakfast, along with a lecture from a notable sculptor and a guided tour of their sculpture park and exhibitions. The best part is that it is free and opened to the public, a perfect way to start your Sunday morning on the last day of Art Basel.

The Black Market: December 10

The Black Market is an alternative flea market put together by the gang at Churchill’s Pub, a popular dive bar in Little Haiti. This Art Basel edition of the event will host over 25 vendors selling things like vinyl records, vintage clothing, jewelry, arts & crafts and zines. The highlight of the event will be their fashion show, with local models and DJs showcasing different styles.

Superfine! Young Collectors’ Ice Cream Social: December 8

Held by the same people holding the Superfine Art Fair, this ice-cream social can help cool you off during the hectic rush of Art Week. Enjoy ice cream from the Wynwood Parlor and music from a local DJ as you socialize and even take part of their ART-stagram scavenger hunt where you could win a $500 art voucher. Try to get the tickets fast because only 300 are going to be sold.

Alongside this, dozens of local and out-of-town chefs will be hosting pop-ups and showcasing bites and samples of their preferred cuisine.



There won’t a single quiet moment during this week, from sounds pouring out of club doors to concerts being held walking distance from another, this is going to be a loud week.


Cut/Copy Live: December 6

Cut/Copy is back on in the spotlight with their new album Free Your Mind, and to usher in their return they will be performing in Miami during Art Basel. The band will be performing along side Palmbomen II at North Beach Bandshell.

Kill Your Idol, a bar in Miami Beach will be having Music from local music playing all night. Experimental will be the theme for the night, artists like Honorable Demons, Tiger’s Milk and Street Rat will be playing late into the night. The main act of the night is Arrington de Dionyso, an experimental musician who’s played along side artist like The Violent Femmes and Tune Yards.


Crew Love Art Basel 2017: December 8

For the 4th year running, Crew Love will be hosting DJs for a night of dance and drinks. Held in the famous Electric Pickle Co, the indoor/outdoor nightclub will open three areas of sound to stage different artist from around the states, including a couple up-and-coming Miami artist.
